Our story

Our Story: It Started With a Bad Hiring Experience

We started Virtustant because we needed it ourselves, and every staffing agency we tried was overpriced, opaque, or both.

In 2021, Erik Reid was running an eCommerce business he had built as a side project after leaving his job as a financial analyst. He needed a virtual assistant. Every service he tried felt the same: high placement fees, opaque markups, and no accountability after the hire.

He brought the problem to his brother-in-law, Kevin Wright, who had already built an international education business and knew the remote talent market firsthand. Instead of waiting for someone to fix staffing, they built the agency they could not find. As they put it in an interview with Authority Magazine: “Rather than waiting for someone else to solve the problem, we took action.”

Virtustant was founded in 2021 and is headquartered in St. Petersburg, Florida, with its operational roots in Argentina, where much of the leadership and recruiting team is based.

Who founded Virtustant?

Virtustant was founded in 2021 by Erik Reid and Kevin Wright, who are brothers-in-law. They started the company after Erik tried to hire a virtual assistant for his own business and found every agency charged high placement fees, added opaque markups, and disappeared once the hire was made. Rather than accept that, they built the agency they wanted to hire from.
