Amazon Account Management Services (2026): Agency Retainers, Performance Fees and the Retainer Hours Test

Amazon account management services run a brand's Seller Central account for it: listings, advertising, inventory, account health and reporting, for a monthly retainer, a share of sales or both. As of 30 October 2026, published agency guides put retainers at $1,500 to $3,000 a month for brands under $250,000 a year and $3,000 to $7,500 for brands up to $2 million (SupplyKick). Retainer plus performance fee (e.g., Marknology): from $2,000 a month plus 3% of Amazon sales above $10,000 a month, with a 90-day minimum. PPC-only agencies: $1,500 to $8,000 a month or 10% to 20% of ad spend. Amazon's own Strategic Account Services: a custom price, a $500,000 sales minimum and a 3-month minimum, and closed to new sellers today. Remote staffing agency, Latin America in US time zones (e.g., Virtustant): a dedicated Amazon VA from $7 an hour all-in ($1,213 a month full-time), with Amazon account managers quoted by role and zero placement fees.
This guide compares the published prices, gives you the Retainer Hours Test for checking what a retainer buys, and shows what 18 Amazon searches in Virtustant's recruitment records asked for. Virtustant is a remote staffing agency and one of the routes compared, so we stick to published facts and show every calculation. Third-party figures were read on each source's page on 30 October 2026.
| Area | The work | Kind of work |
|---|---|---|
| Listings and catalog | Titles, bullets, backend keywords, variations, A+ Content, Brand Store, suppressed or miscategorized listings | Mostly execution |
| Advertising | Sponsored Products, Brands and Display; keyword research, negatives, bids and budgets against ACOS or TACoS targets | Strategy and execution |
| Inventory and FBA | Restock alerts, stranded inventory, shipment plans, stockout and overstock checks | Execution |
| Account health | Policy warnings, listing suppressions, Seller Support cases, Brand Registry | Execution with judgment |
| Pricing and promotions | Coupons, deals, Q4 and Prime Day plans | Strategy |
| Reporting | Weekly sales, ad spend, ACOS and TACoS; monthly keyword and ranking review | Execution |
Most of the hours are execution. The strategy is a smaller share of the time and the part an agency's experience across many brands is worth paying for.
Figures as published, read on 30 October 2026. “Not published” means the provider quotes after a call or an audit.
| Provider or source | Model | Published price or terms |
|---|---|---|
| SupplyKick (2026 guide) | Agency retainers by brand size | Entry $1,500 to $3,000 a month (under $250K a year); mid-market $3,000 to $7,500 ($250K to $2M); full-service $7,500 to $15,000 ($2M to $10M); enterprise $15,000 to $25,000+ |
| SupplyKick (2026 guide) | Other fee models | Revenue share 3% to 10%; PPC 10% to 20% of ad spend; setup $1,000 to $5,000; termination commonly 1 to 3 months of retainer |
| Marknology | Retainer plus performance fee | From $2,000 a month plus 3% of Amazon sales above $10,000 a month; never a share of ad spend; 90-day minimum, then month-to-month with 30 days' notice |

| Evolve (survey of 41 PPC agencies, 22 October 2026) | Published PPC fees | 13 of 41 publish a price; published flat fees and floors run $499 to $12,000 a month |
| Amazon Strategic Account Services | Amazon's own account management | Custom price; $500,000 minimum sales threshold; 3-month minimum; not accepting new enrollments |

Ad spend is always on top. Every figure above is the management fee; the money you spend on Amazon ads is separate.
Divide the retainer by the hourly cost of a dedicated execution seat. The answer is how many hours of hands-on account work the same money buys in-house. Then ask the agency how many hours of whose time the retainer includes. The gap is what you are paying for strategy, tools and the agency's overhead.
| Monthly retainer | Hours of a dedicated Amazon VA at $7/hr | Full-time seats (173.3 hours each) |
|---|---|---|
| $1,500 | 214 | 1.2 |
| $3,000 | 429 | 2.5 |
| $7,500 | 1,071 | 6.2 |
| $15,000 | 2,143 | 12.4 |
How to read it. An entry retainer costs about the same as one full-time, in-house execution seat. Above that, the retainer has to deliver strategy you cannot get from one person: category benchmarks, creative, a PPC team. If the agency's answer is “one account manager across many brands”, you are buying a fraction of a person at the price of several.
The split setup. Keep a dedicated specialist for listings, inventory, cases and reports, and buy advertising strategy from a PPC-only agency or a consultant. That way the execution hours stop being billed at agency rates, and the strategy stays with people who see many accounts.
A base fee plus a share of sales grows with the account. At Marknology's published terms ($2,000 plus 3% of Amazon sales above $10,000 a month):
| Amazon sales a month | Monthly fee | Fee as a share of sales |
|---|---|---|
| $10,000 | $2,000 | 20.0% |
| $30,000 | $2,600 | 8.7% |
| $100,000 | $4,700 | 4.7% |
| $250,000 | $9,200 | 3.7% |
That is the trade-off every revenue-linked fee makes: the agency is paid more when you sell more, and the fee keeps rising after the work stops growing. For the crossover against a dedicated hire, see the Fee-Scaling Test in our ecommerce outsourcing guide.

We read 3 of the Amazon account manager posts in full. All 3 asked for advertising work, all 3 for listings, 2 for account health and 2 for FBA inventory; one asked for a weekly summary of sales, ad spend and ACOS or TACoS, and planning for “Q4 and Prime Day”. And 2 of the 3 came from Amazon agencies hiring an account manager to run their own clients' accounts, which is the Retainer Hours Test from the other side: agencies staff the execution with dedicated people too. The 3 posts drew a median of 176 applicants.

US benchmark: the closest BLS category, market research analysts and marketing specialists, had a median wage of $37.87 an hour in May 2025 (BLS OEWS, May 2025), before payroll taxes and benefits.
Virtustant is a remote staffing agency that places vetted Amazon VAs, Amazon account managers, PPC specialists and ecommerce professionals from Latin America with US brands and agencies, working your hours in Seller Central and your ad tools. Amazon VAs start at $7/hr all-in; Amazon account managers are quoted by role, based on your schedule, catalog size and marketplaces. You get a shortlist of 3 to 5 vetted candidates within 48 hours of your first call, and your hire can start in 72 hours. The vetting funnel: 100% apply, 22% clear the recruiter screen, 9% pass cognitive (IQ), skills and English testing, 3% reach a live interview, 1% are hired, which is what we mean by the top 1%.
After the hire, your account manager coordinates onboarding, the start date, account access and a first-week plan. You direct the day-to-day work. Virtustant handles payroll, paperwork and everything administrative on the professional's side. Terms are month-to-month with zero placement fees and a lifetime replacement guarantee. How Virtustant makes money: if you pay your agent $10/hr, we give them $9 and keep the dollar in the middle.

Amazon account management services run a brand's Seller Central account: listings and catalog, advertising, inventory and FBA, account health, promotions and reporting. They are sold by full-service agencies on a retainer, by agencies that add a share of sales, by PPC-only agencies, by Amazon itself for large sellers, or done by a dedicated in-house specialist.
SupplyKick's 2026 guide puts agency retainers at $1,500 to $3,000 a month for brands under $250,000 a year, $3,000 to $7,500 up to $2 million and $7,500 to $15,000 up to $10 million, plus setup fees of $1,000 to $5,000. Marknology publishes $2,000 a month plus 3% of sales above $10,000. Ad spend is extra.
PPC-only agencies charge $1,500 to $8,000 a month or 10% to 20% of ad spend, per SalesDuo's 2026 guide. Of 41 PPC agencies Evolve checked on 22 October 2026, 13 publish a price, with flat fees and floors from $499 to $12,000 a month.
Run the Retainer Hours Test: divide the retainer by the hourly cost of a dedicated execution seat. At $7 an hour, a $1,500 retainer equals about 214 hours, more than one full-time person. If the retainer does not buy strategy you cannot get from one person, a dedicated specialist for execution plus a PPC-only service usually costs less.
Amazon's Strategic Account Services assign a customer success manager to established sellers, at a custom price, with a $500,000 minimum sales threshold and a 3-month minimum. As of 30 October 2026, the program page says it is not accepting new enrollments.
In-house fits when most of the work is execution: listings, inventory, cases and reports. In 18 Amazon searches in Virtustant's records, 12 were full-time, and 2 of the 3 account manager posts read came from Amazon agencies staffing their own client work. Through Virtustant, Amazon VAs start at $7 an hour and account managers are quoted by role.
