  • Published prices for a dedicated ecommerce VA mostly run from about $6 to $10 an hour (October 2026): hour bundles from $399 for 40 hours, managed plans at $699 for 80 and $999 for 160, hourly staffing at $6.50 to $10.
  • Converted to effective hourly rates, monthly plans range from $5.76 (Invedus full-time) to $9.97 (VirtualTask360 Starter); unused bundle hours raise the real rate.
  • The Three-Lane Test: store operations, marketplace growth and store build are three different hires. A lane with 20+ hours a week is a seat; under 5 is a project.
  • In 40 ecommerce searches at Virtustant, 18 were Amazon roles, Amazon roles were mostly full-time and Shopify roles mostly part-time.
  • Through Virtustant, ecommerce VAs start at $7/hr all-in ($607 a month at 20 hours a week) with zero placement fees; Shopify developers start at $8/hr.

Key Takeaways

Ecommerce virtual assistant services are remote assistants who run the daily work of an online store, such as product listings, inventory, orders, returns and customer messages on Shopify, Amazon, Walmart and eBay, for an hourly rate or a monthly plan. As of 29 October 2026, published prices for a dedicated assistant mostly run from about $6 to $10 an hour. Hour bundles (e.g., VirtualTask360): $399 a month for 40 hours to $1,399 for 160. Managed VA plans (e.g., Wing Assistant): $699 a month for 80 hours and $999 for 160. Hourly VA staffing (e.g., VA Masters): $6.50 to $10 an hour for e-commerce roles. Remote staffing agency, Latin America in US time zones (e.g., Virtustant): from $7 an hour all-in, about $607 a month at 20 hours a week and $1,213 at 40, with zero placement fees. Managed staffing with a monthly minimum (e.g., Virtual Latinos, MyOutDesk): from $1,600 to $1,988 a month. Freelance marketplaces (e.g., Upwork): $10 to $20 an hour for virtual assistants, plus client fees.

This guide compares 10 ecommerce VA services by their published prices, converts every plan to an effective hourly rate, and gives you the Three-Lane Test for deciding whether you need a VA, an Amazon account manager or a Shopify developer. It also shows what 40 ecommerce searches in Virtustant's recruitment records ask for. Virtustant is a remote staffing agency and one of the services compared, so we stick to published facts and show every calculation. Third-party prices were read on each provider's own page on 29 October 2026.

What an Ecommerce Virtual Assistant Does

An ecommerce VA keeps the store running between the decisions you make. The work splits by channel:

ChannelTypical VA tasksUsually stays with you
Shopify storeProduct uploads, images, collections, inventory updates, discount codes, order issues, fixing products wrongly marked sold outPricing strategy, theme code, app purchases
Amazon Seller CentralListing updates, inventory and restock alerts, suppressed listings, buyer messages, Seller Support cases, weekly sales reportsAdvertising budgets, ACOS targets, brand strategy
Walmart and eBayListing creation, catalog clean-up, image prep, keeping stock in sync with the main storeWhich marketplaces to sell on
Customer serviceTickets in Gorgias or Zendesk, shipping questions, returns, exchanges, refunds inside your policyRefunds outside policy, chargebacks, payment settings
ReportingWeekly summary of sales, stock problems, open tickets and tasks doneWhat to do about the numbers

One Virtustant job post for a Shopify role put the boundary in a single line: the person must “never issue refunds, edit orders, change payment settings, or handle store finances without the client's written approval.” Write that line into your own brief.

The Effective Hourly Rate of Each Plan

Monthly plans are easier to compare once you divide the price by the hours it buys. Where a page publishes a full-time plan without an hour count, we use 40 hours a week (173.3 hours a month) and say so.

Service and planMonthly priceHours a monthEffective hourly rate
VirtualTask360, Starter$39940$9.97
VirtualTask360, Part-time$74980$9.36
VirtualTask360, Full-time$1,399160$8.74
Wing Assistant, part-time$69980$8.74
Wing Assistant, full-time$999160$6.24
Invedus, full-time$999173.3 (40 hours a week minimum)$5.76
Invedus, part-timeHourly43.3+ (10 hours a week minimum)$7.99
VA Masters, e-commerce rolesHourlyFrom 40 (80 recommended)$6.50 to $10.00
OnlineJobs.ph, Pro plan plus a full-time worker$69 plus $800 to $1,100 in pay173.3 (our assumption)$5.01 to $6.74
Upwork, virtual assistant plus 5% feeHourlyAny$10.50 to $21.00
Virtustant, starting rateHourly, all-inYour schedule$7.00
Virtustant, virtual assistant median (H1 2026, n=24)Hourly, all-inYour schedule$10.10

Two things the table does not show. First, a bundle only pays off if you use the hours: at VirtualTask360's $749 plan, using 50 of the 80 hours makes the real rate $14.98. Second, the cheapest hour is not the cheapest store. An assistant who handles listings but not account health can cost more in one suppressed best-seller than a month of the difference in rates.

The OnlineJobs.ph pay range comes from its own salary guide for an intermediate full-time virtual assistant, as summarized in our OnlineJobs.ph pricing guide. The Virtustant medians come from the 2026 Rate Report (441 placement starts, January to June 2026); they are client-side benchmarks, not price quotes.

The Three-Lane Test

Most ecommerce hiring mistakes come from asking one person to do three different jobs. Store work falls into three lanes, and each lane has a different hire and a different price:

LaneThe workWho does itVirtustant starting price
1. Store operationsListings, inventory, orders, returns, customer messages, weekly reportsEcommerce virtual assistant or customer service repFrom $7/hr all-in
2. Marketplace growthAmazon PPC, ACOS and TACoS targets, account health, A+ Content, promotions, Q4 and Prime Day planningAmazon account manager or marketplace specialistRole-specific quote
3. Store buildTheme code in Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, apps, integrations, CRO testsShopify developerFrom $8/hr all-in

How to run it.

  1. List every store task from the last four weeks, with the hours each took.
  2. Put each task in one lane.
  3. A lane with 20 or more hours a week is a seat: hire a person for it.
  4. A lane with under 5 hours a week is a project: give it to a freelancer, an agency or the hire in the busiest lane, if it is a small stretch of their skills.
  5. If your brief asks one person for all three lanes, either raise the budget to a senior hire or split the role.

The test matters because the lanes are priced differently. A store-operations VA starts at $7 an hour; an Amazon account manager is quoted by role because the work depends on catalog size and ad spend; a Shopify developer starts at $8. In the 13 Virtustant ecommerce job posts we read in full, 6 asked for advertising work and 3 asked for theme code, often in roles titled “specialist”.

What 40 Ecommerce Searches Show

We pulled every ecommerce store and marketplace search opened in Virtustant's recruitment system from October 2025 to October 2026: 40 searches, of which 20 are marked hired. Another 8 searches were for Shopify developers and designers (lane 3) and are counted separately.

What the records showCount
Amazon roles (account manager, specialist, PPC, listings, purchasing)18 of 40
Shopify store operations roles7 of 40
General e-commerce specialist, assistant or support roles7 of 40
Marketplace specialist roles (Amazon, Walmart, eBay)4 of 40
Walmart seller roles4 of 40
Full-time schedules (40 hours a week)19 of 40
Part-time schedules, most often 4 hours a day11 of 40
Pacific time hours14 of 40
Eastern time hours12 of 40
Central time hours2 of 40

We also read 13 of the job posts in full. The duties they asked for:

  • Listings, catalog or product data: 10 of 13.
  • Advertising (Amazon PPC, Meta ads or Google Shopping feeds): 6 of 13.
  • Inventory, FBA or stock sync across channels: 5 of 13.
  • Account health and suppressed listings: 4 of 13.
  • Customer service, returns and refunds: 4 of 13.
  • Theme code in Liquid, HTML, CSS and JavaScript: 3 of 13.
  • Two or more sales channels in one role: 4 of 13.

Two patterns stand out. Amazon accounts for almost half of the searches, and Amazon roles lean full-time (12 of the 18 had full-time schedules), while Shopify operations roles lean part-time (5 of 7). And the posts drew a median of 107 applicants each, which is why the screening, not the sourcing, is the hard part of the hire.

How Many Hours to Buy

Monthly cost is weekly hours × 52 ÷ 12 × the hourly rate. At Virtustant's starting rate and at the virtual assistant median:

Hours a weekHours a monthAt $7/hr (starting rate)At $10.10/hr (VA median)
1043.3$303$438
2086.7$607$875
30130.0$910$1,313
40173.3$1,213$1,751

A practical starting point, in line with the searches above: 20 hours a week for a single Shopify store, and 40 hours a week once you sell on Amazon and a second channel, or once customer messages arrive all day. In the searches above, the part-time Shopify roles were mostly 4-hour blocks in the morning, and the full-time Amazon roles ran a full US business day.

Plan for Q4 and Prime Day

Ecommerce work is not flat. One Amazon post in our records asked the hire to “prepare for events like Q4 and Prime Day”, and that is where an hour plan breaks: the hours you need in November and December can be well above a normal month. Before you sign, ask every provider three questions:

  • Can I change hours month to month, and with how much notice? VirtualTask360 and VA Masters both state 30 days' notice; Wing Assistant and Virtustant run month-to-month.
  • Who covers the overflow? A second assistant for six weeks, or overtime from the first.
  • Is there a holiday calendar? VA Masters, for example, does not bill 24, 25 and 31 December. Know your assistant's days off before Black Friday, not during it.

The Store Access Checklist

  1. Staff accounts, never the owner login. Shopify staff accounts and Amazon Seller Central user permissions let you give each person only the sections they need.
  2. Write the approval line. Refunds outside policy, price changes, payment settings and ad budgets need your written OK.
  3. Test before live. Theme changes go on a duplicate theme; checkout tests use test mode, never a personal card.
  4. One source of truth for stock. Decide which system holds inventory when you sell on more than one channel.
  5. A weekly report. Sales, stock problems, open tickets, account health and tasks done, every Monday.
  6. Two-factor on every account, with codes sent to a device you control.

What the Same Work Costs in the US

There is no single BLS category for ecommerce assistants. The closest ones, as US median hourly wages in May 2025 (BLS OEWS national estimates, May 2025), before payroll taxes and benefits:

BLS occupationUS median hourly wageClosest ecommerce work
Customer service representatives (43-4051)$21.53Tickets, returns, buyer messages
Order clerks (43-4151)$22.20Order processing and order issues
Secretaries and administrative assistants (43-6014)$22.86General store admin
Market research analysts and marketing specialists (13-1161)$37.87Marketplace growth and advertising

Against those wages, the $7 starting rate is about a third of the US median for store operations work, before a US hire's payroll taxes, benefits and recruiting time are added.

How to Choose a Service

  • Under 10 hours a week of mixed tasks: an hour bundle or a vetted freelancer is usually cheapest.
  • Steady store operations, 20 to 40 hours a week: a dedicated assistant at an hourly rate, with the same person every week.
  • Amazon is most of your revenue: an Amazon account manager or an Amazon agency, not a general VA. Our ecommerce outsourcing guide shows when a revenue-share agency costs more than a dedicated specialist.
  • Customers expect answers in US hours: pick a service whose assistants work your business day, and name the hours in the contract.
  • You want to hire and manage the person yourself: a job board such as OnlineJobs.ph, with the screening on you.

Compare quotes on the same brief. Ask each provider for the price at your real hours, the effective hourly rate, the notice to change hours, who replaces the assistant if it does not work out, and whether there is a setup or placement fee.

Hiring an Ecommerce VA Through Virtustant

Virtustant is a remote staffing agency that places vetted ecommerce virtual assistants, customer service reps, Amazon account managers and Shopify developers from Latin America with US brands, working your hours in Shopify, Seller Central, Gorgias, Zendesk and your other tools. Ecommerce VAs start at $7/hr all-in and Shopify developers at $8/hr; Amazon account managers are quoted by role. You get a shortlist of 3 to 5 vetted candidates within 48 hours of your first call, and your hire can start in 72 hours. The vetting funnel: 100% apply, 22% clear the recruiter screen, 9% pass cognitive (IQ), skills and English testing, 3% reach a live interview, 1% are hired, which is what we mean by the top 1%.

After the hire, your account manager coordinates onboarding, the start date, tool access and a first-week plan. You direct the day-to-day work. Virtustant handles payroll, paperwork and everything administrative on the professional's side. Terms are month-to-month with zero placement fees and a lifetime replacement guarantee. How Virtustant makes money: if you pay your agent $10/hr, we give them $9 and keep the dollar in the middle.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an ecommerce virtual assistant?

An ecommerce virtual assistant is a remote assistant who runs the daily work of an online store: product listings, inventory, orders, returns, customer messages and weekly reports on platforms such as Shopify, Amazon Seller Central, Walmart and eBay. Strategy, pricing, ad budgets and refunds outside policy usually stay with the store owner.

How much does an ecommerce virtual assistant cost?

Published prices for a dedicated ecommerce VA mostly run from about $6 to $10 an hour in October 2026. VirtualTask360 sells 40 to 160 hours for $399 to $1,399 a month, Wing Assistant charges $699 for 80 hours and $999 for 160, VA Masters lists $6.50 to $10 an hour for e-commerce roles, and Virtustant starts at $7 an hour all-in, about $607 a month at 20 hours a week.

How much does an Amazon virtual assistant cost per month?

At published rates, a full-time Amazon VA costs about $1,000 to $1,750 a month at 40 hours a week: $7 an hour all-in through Virtustant is $1,213 a month, and the Virtustant virtual assistant median of $10.10 an hour (H1 2026, n=24) is $1,751. Amazon account managers who run advertising and account health cost more and are usually quoted by role.

Where can I hire a Shopify virtual assistant?

Freelance marketplaces such as Upwork and Fiverr, job boards such as OnlineJobs.ph, VA services with monthly plans such as VirtualTask360 and Wing Assistant, and remote staffing agencies such as Virtustant, which places Shopify VAs from $7 an hour and Shopify developers from $8 an hour from Latin America in US hours.

What are the best ecommerce virtual assistant services?

It depends on the work. For a few hours of mixed tasks, an hour bundle such as VirtualTask360 ($399 for 40 hours) fits. For a full-time assistant at a fixed monthly price, Wing Assistant ($999 for 160 hours) or Invedus ($999 for 40+ hours a week). For a dedicated assistant in US hours from Latin America with zero placement fees, Virtustant (from $7 an hour). Compare the effective hourly rate at your real hours, not the headline price.

Should I hire a part-time or full-time ecommerce VA?

In 40 ecommerce searches in Virtustant's records, Shopify store roles were mostly part-time (5 of 7, usually 4 hours a day) and Amazon roles mostly full-time (12 of 18). Start at 20 hours a week for one store and move to 40 once you sell on Amazon plus another channel or handle customer messages all day.

What should an ecommerce VA not do?

Keep refunds outside your policy, price changes, payment settings, store finances and ad budgets behind your written approval. Give the assistant a staff account with limited permissions instead of the owner login, and have theme changes built on a duplicate theme before they go live.

How fast can I hire an ecommerce VA?

You get a shortlist of 3 to 5 vetted candidates within 48 hours of your first call, and your hire can start in 72 hours.

Virtustant monthly cost: weekly hours × 52 ÷ 12 × $7 = $607 at 20 hours and $1,213 at 40. Upwork: hourly rate × 1.05 for the Basic plan client fee. OnlineJobs.ph: ($69 + monthly pay) ÷ 173.3.
