Key Takeaways

  • Virtustant's top three countries for remote sales talent in 2026 are Argentina, Brazil and South Africa (English quality, senior account-facing profiles); by volume, 490+ verified sales placements since 2021 came mostly from Mexico (16%), Costa Rica (13%), Argentina (12%), Brazil (9%) and Colombia (9%).
  • Central America (Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador) accounts for about a third of Virtustant's sales placements and is the strongest region for outbound and appointment setting on US hours.
  • Sales reps, SDRs and appointment setters from Latin America earn $7-$9/hr with a median of $8.00 (about $16,600/yr), versus $90,000-$120,000 realistic year-one cost for a US SDR: savings of up to 70%.
  • National English rankings do not predict the hire: Mexico ranks #103 of 123 in the EF EPI 2025 and is still the top source of sales placements, because candidates are tested live.
  • Of sales placements with a recorded US schedule, 56% work Eastern, 27% Central and 16% Pacific hours; South Africa and the Philippines cover early, late and overnight shifts.

The best countries to hire remote sales talent in 2026 are Argentina, Brazil and South Africa for English quality and senior, account-facing profiles, and Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia for high-volume outbound and appointment setting on US hours, followed by a Central American bench (Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador) that most rankings ignore. The ranking is Virtustant's recommendation; the evidence behind it is 490+ verified Virtustant sales placements since 2021, shown country by country below. Sales reps, SDRs and appointment setters from these countries earn a median of $8.00 an hour (about $16,600 a year full-time), work US business hours, and let US companies save up to 70% versus a domestic hire.

Most "best countries" lists are written from national statistics. This one is written by the people who place the reps: it shows which countries US companies actually hire sales talent from when a vetted shortlist is in front of them, which hours those reps work, and what they cost, and it adds the EF English Proficiency Index and time-zone math so you can compare. The order is our recommendation; the data is first-party.

How we ranked these countries

Three inputs, in this order of weight:

  1. English quality and seniority of the bench. We show each country's EF EPI 2025 rank and score (123 countries, global average 488) as a read on the size of the English-speaking pool, and we weight it by what Virtustant's recruiters see in live spoken-English interviews and in the seniority of the sales candidates who clear them. Argentina, Brazil and South Africa lead on this input, which is why they open the list.
  2. Verified sales placements. Virtustant's hiring records (2021 to September 2026) contain 490+ placements flagged as sales roles: appointment setters, SDRs, outbound and inbound reps, account managers and closers. Roughly 90% came from Latin America, and 91% started in 2024 or later. The placement column shows where US clients have actually hired, and it does not always match the recommendation: Mexico and Costa Rica lead by volume because they dominate high-volume outbound seats. Counts are rounded down to the nearest ten so they never over-claim.
  3. Fit with US working hours. Every country is scored on what 9:00 AM Eastern looks like locally, in summer (EDT) and winter (EST), because sales is a synchronous job: dials, demos and follow-ups happen on the buyer's clock. This is the input that keeps South Africa at third rather than first, and the Philippines last.

Rates are shown by role, not by country. Across Virtustant's placements the rate is set by the role and the seniority of the person, and a Costa Rican appointment setter and an Argentine appointment setter with the same experience earn the same. If you want the rate logic in detail, the LATAM salary guide and what a remote SDR costs in 2026 cover it.

Why hire sales talent based in other countries?

Four reasons show up in almost every discovery call Virtustant runs with a US sales leader:

  • Cost per seat. A US SDR costs $50,000 to $65,000 in base salary, $70,000 to $90,000 at on-target earnings, and $90,000 to $120,000 in realistic year-one cost once payroll load, tooling and ramp are included. A remote SDR in Latin America at the $8.00 median runs about $16,600 a year in base pay. Same funnel stage, same quota math.
  • More reps for the same budget. The most common use of the savings is not a smaller sales team, it is a bigger top of funnel: two or three appointment setters feeding one US closer instead of one US rep doing everything.
  • Same-day selling. Latin America sits within two hours of US Eastern. Your reps dial when your prospects answer, join the 9:00 AM pipeline review live, and hand off warm leads while the closer is still at their desk.
  • Bilingual reach. Spanish and Portuguese speakers who sell in English open the US Hispanic market and Latin America itself as a second territory without a second team.

US in-house SDR vs remote LATAM SDR: the year-one bill

Cost lineUS in-house SDRRemote LATAM SDR (Virtustant)
Base pay$50,000-$65,000~$16,600/yr ($8.00/hr median)
Variable pay$15,000-$25,000 at quotaTypically $25-$100 per qualified meeting
Payroll load and benefits$12,000-$20,000Included in the hourly rate
Tools and data$3,000-$8,000$3,000-$8,000 (you provide)
Recruiting fee15-25% of salary via recruiters$0 placement fee
Realistic year one$90,000-$120,000~$20,000-$28,000

Figures are from Virtustant's 2026 remote SDR cost breakdown. Savings depend on the role and seniority; "up to 70%" is the ceiling, not a promise for every seat.

The 14 best countries to hire remote sales talent, compared

Placement share is the percentage of Virtustant's country-tagged sales placements (2021 to September 2026). "9 AM ET locally" shows the local time when it is 9:00 AM in New York, in summer and in winter. EF EPI is the 2025 global rank and score out of 123 countries.

Two things in that table contradict the usual advice. First, Central America is a third of our sales placements (Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Panama and El Salvador together), and it barely appears in competitor rankings. Second, the largest source by volume, Mexico, ranks #103 of 123 for English, while Argentina, the highest-ranked Latin American country at #26, sends fewer reps but more senior ones. National English averages describe the pool; they do not describe the person you interview, which is why we rank on tested individuals and show the volume separately.

The 14 countries, one by one

1. Argentina

Argentina is Virtustant's number-one recommendation for remote sales talent and its largest talent source overall: 50+ sales placements, 12% of the total, and the deepest bench on this list for consultative, demo-led and account-facing selling. It is the top-ranked Latin American country in the EF EPI 2025 at #26 (575), up 13 points year over year, which in practice means the shortlist for a senior sales seat is longer and the English is closer to native on the first call.

The mix is different from Central America: more inbound and account-facing sales, sales support and appointment setting for higher-ticket offers, fewer pure cold-calling seats. Argentina runs on UTC-3 with no daylight saving time, so 9:00 AM Eastern is 10:00 AM in Buenos Aires in summer and 11:00 AM in winter; a full Eastern day ends at 6:00 or 7:00 PM local, which most candidates accept as a normal schedule. Combine that with a university system that produces a lot of business, marketing and finance graduates and you get the strongest profile on this list for a rep who will run a demo, manage an account or close. Hire remote talent in Argentina.

2. Brazil

Brazil is second on depth of pool: it is the largest economy in the region, and the English-fluent professionals in São Paulo, Rio and the tech hubs are numerous in absolute terms even though the national EF EPI 2025 score (482, rank #75) sits just under the global average of 488. In Virtustant's records Brazil accounts for 40+ sales placements (9%), spread across the funnel with a meaningful outbound share, and it is the second-largest source of Virtustant placements overall.

São Paulo runs on UTC-3 (Brazil has not observed daylight saving time since 2019), the same Eastern-friendly offset as Argentina. Brazil is the obvious pick if you sell into Portuguese-speaking markets or want a rep who can cover Latin America as a territory alongside the US. Hire remote talent in Brazil.

3. South Africa

South Africa is third, and the only country outside Latin America in the top ten, because of the English: it is one of the country's official languages, and South Africa scores 602 on the EF EPI 2025, rank #13 of 123, the highest on this list by a wide margin. South African English is widely understood by US buyers. 20+ sales placements (4%) so far, and one of the few countries whose sales share of placements is higher than its overall share.

The trade-off is the clock. South Africa runs on UTC+2, six hours ahead of Eastern in summer and seven in winter, so 9:00 AM in New York is 3:00 or 4:00 PM in Johannesburg. That makes it a fit for two specific schedules: East Coast mornings and early afternoons (a South African rep working until 11:00 PM local covers a full Eastern day), and after-hours or early-morning coverage that a LATAM team would have to staff at night. For a West Coast outbound seat, look further down this list. Hire remote talent in South Africa.

4. Mexico

Mexico is Virtustant's single largest source of sales talent by volume: 70+ sales placements, 16% of the total, concentrated in outbound sales and appointment setting. Mexico City runs on UTC-6 year-round (most of the country stopped observing daylight saving time in 2022), so a rep working 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern starts at 7:00 AM local in summer and 8:00 AM in winter, a normal working day, and Mexico matches US Central exactly in winter.

The English paradox lives here. Mexico scores 440 on the EF EPI 2025, rank #103 of 123, yet more US companies hire sales reps from Mexico through Virtustant than from anywhere else. The reason is selection: Virtustant screens English live in a spoken interview, and the bilingual professionals who clear it typically come from US-facing sales and customer teams in Monterrey, Guadalajara and Mexico City, where selling to American buyers is the day job. Hire the individual, not the average. Mexico is also the natural choice if part of your territory is Spanish-speaking. Hire remote talent in Mexico.

5. Costa Rica

Costa Rica punches far above its size: 60+ sales placements, 13% of the total, from a country of about five million people. It has the highest sales share of any Latin American country on this list: more than four in ten Costa Rican placements in Virtustant's records are sales roles, with appointment setting and outbound calling the most common, followed by inbound sales. UTC-6 with no daylight saving time means the same 7:00 AM / 8:00 AM local start for an Eastern shift, and a perfect match with US Central in winter.

Costa Rica's EF EPI 2025 score is 516 (rank #55), above the global average of 488, and the country has a long track record of serving US customers by phone, which shows in how quickly setters ramp on a dialer and a script. If your first remote sales hire is an appointment setter, this is where we would look first. Hire remote talent in Costa Rica.

6. Colombia

40+ sales placements (9%) across the sales funnel. Colombia runs on UTC-5 with no daylight saving time: identical to US Eastern from November to March and one hour behind the rest of the year, the cleanest Eastern match in South America. EF EPI 2025: 480, rank #76. Bogotá and Medellín have a large customer-facing workforce built on years of serving US accounts, and Colombian candidates are consistently strong on the phone. Colombia is the default recommendation when a client needs an Eastern-hours rep and does not have a role-specific reason to look elsewhere. Hire remote talent in Colombia.

7. Honduras

Honduras is the surprise of the list: 30+ sales placements (6%), mostly appointment setting and outbound, and an EF EPI 2025 score of 553 (rank #32), the second-highest in Latin America after Argentina and 88 points up on the prior edition. UTC-6, no daylight saving time. Honduran candidates rarely appear in "best countries" lists because the national talent pool is smaller, but for a US-hours outbound seat the individuals we place are as strong as anywhere on this list. Hire remote talent in Honduras.

8. Guatemala

20+ sales placements (5%), split between outbound sales and appointment setting. UTC-6 year-round. EF EPI 2025: 510, rank #61, above the global average. Guatemala City has a deep bench of bilingual professionals with US customer-facing experience, and Guatemalan candidates in Virtustant's records are almost entirely in outbound and setting roles. Hire remote talent in Guatemala.

9. Ecuador

10+ sales placements (4%), almost all appointment setting in Virtustant's records. UTC-5, no daylight saving time, so the same Eastern alignment as Colombia. EF EPI 2025: 466, rank #83. Ecuador uses the US dollar. A smaller market that has become a steady source of setters for US real estate, home services and B2B teams. Hire remote talent in Ecuador.

10. Nicaragua

10+ sales placements (4%), outbound sales and appointment setting. UTC-6, no daylight saving time. EF EPI 2025: 512, rank #60. A smaller pool than its neighbors, but the same profile: bilingual, phone-comfortable, and already working US hours. Hire remote talent in Nicaragua.

11. Panama

10+ sales placements (3%), appointment setting and outbound. Panama runs on UTC-5 with no daylight saving time, so it matches US Eastern exactly in winter and sits one hour behind in summer, the tightest Eastern alignment in Central America. EF EPI 2025: 491, rank #70. The US dollar is legal tender, which simplifies compensation conversations. Hire remote talent in Panama.

12. Peru

10+ sales placements (3%), appointment setting and outbound sales. UTC-5 year-round, Eastern-aligned. EF EPI 2025: 519, rank #52, comfortably above the global average and ahead of Brazil and Colombia. Lima has a large professional workforce, and Peruvian candidates in Virtustant's records skew toward appointment setting for US B2B and home-services teams. Hire remote talent in Peru.

13. El Salvador

10+ sales placements (3%), outbound sales and appointment setting. UTC-6 year-round. EF EPI 2025: 523, rank #47, above the regional norm. Like Panama, El Salvador uses the US dollar. A compact but reliable source for outbound seats. Hire remote talent in El Salvador.

14. Philippines

10+ sales placements (2%). Virtustant is a remote staffing agency that is Latin America first, with a global bench for the hours Latin America cannot cover; fewer than one in ten of its sales placements come from outside the region, and the Philippines is the second half of that bench after South Africa. It is UTC+8, twelve to thirteen hours ahead of Eastern, so a US business-hours shift is an overnight shift in Manila. That is why it sits last on a sales list and why we still place there: it is the right answer for overnight inbound coverage, follow-up on West Coast leads after LATAM reps have signed off, and clients who already run a night shift. English is an official language and the Philippines scores 569 on the EF EPI 2025 (rank #28). For outbound calling on US daytime hours, Latin America is the better fit. Hire remote talent in the Philippines.

What to look for in remote sales talent (from 490+ placements)

Country gets you a pool. These five traits get you a rep who is still producing in month six. They are what Virtustant's recruiters test for, in this order:

  1. Spoken English under pressure, not on a test. Every Virtustant candidate completes a live spoken-English assessment, and for sales roles the bar is a fluent, unscripted objection-handling exchange, not a reading score. Only 9% of applicants pass the combined skills-and-English stage.
  2. Dial discipline. Outbound is a volume job. Ask for the candidate's previous daily activity numbers (dials, connects, meetings set) and how they were tracked. Vague answers are a red flag.
  3. CRM and dialer fluency. A setter who has worked inside HubSpot, Salesforce or GoHighLevel and a power dialer ramps in days, not weeks. Look for tools by name on the resume and probe them in the interview.
  4. Commission literacy. The strongest remote reps ask how variable pay is calculated and when it is paid. That question is a signal of ownership, not greed.
  5. Schedule honesty. Confirm the exact US hours, in the candidate's local time, and that they have a quiet, wired workspace for them. A rep who is quietly working a night shift to cover your day will not last, however good they are on the phone.

How to choose the right country for your sales team

Use the four questions below in order. Most clients land on a country by the second one.

1. Which US hours must the rep cover?

  • Eastern, full day: Colombia, Panama, Peru and Ecuador (UTC-5) are the closest match; Argentina and Brazil (UTC-3) work a slightly later local day; Mexico and Central America (UTC-6) start early and finish mid-afternoon.
  • Central or Mountain: Mexico and Central America (UTC-6) are the natural fit.
  • Pacific: Mexico and Central America still work (a 9:00 AM Pacific start is 10:00 or 11:00 AM local); Argentina and Brazil push into the evening.
  • Early morning, late evening or overnight: South Africa for East Coast early shifts and after-hours; the Philippines for overnight coverage.

Of Virtustant's sales placements with a recorded US schedule, 56% work Eastern hours, 27% Central, 16% Pacific and 1% Mountain. Every one of them works the client's clock, not their own. Time zone overlap by country has the full arithmetic.

2. What kind of selling is it?

High-volume outbound and appointment setting: Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, Guatemala. Inbound, consultative, demo-led or account management: Argentina, Brazil, Colombia. Closing and full-cycle sales: Argentina and Colombia most often, and see what a remote closer does and costs before you decide the role should be remote at all.

3. Which languages does your territory speak?

English only: any country on this list, judged by the individual. English plus Spanish: Mexico, Colombia, Argentina and Central America. English plus Portuguese: Brazil.

4. How large a shortlist do you want?

If you want five candidates in 48 hours, choose from the top five countries, where the pool is deepest. If you have a specific reason for a smaller country (a Panamanian rep for a dollarized market, a Honduran team to sit beside an existing one), expect a shortlist that is just as strong but takes a little longer to assemble.

How much does remote sales talent cost by country?

Across Virtustant's verified placements, the rate is set by role and seniority, not by passport. That is a deliberate position: paying a Costa Rican and an Argentine setter differently for the same job is how you lose the better one. Here is the sales section of the LATAM salary guide:

RoleTypical range (P25-P75)MedianTypical US rateSavings
Appointment setter / SDR / sales rep$7-$9/hr$8.00/hr$25-$45/hrup to 70%
Project / account manager$8.75-$15.40/hr$10.00/hr$35-$60/hrup to 70%
Customer service / inbound support$7-$10.50/hr$7.00/hr$18-$30/hrup to 70%

At the $8.00 median a full-time rep costs about $1,300 a month or $16,600 a year, before any commission you choose to add. Virtustant rates start at $7/hr all-in, with payroll, compliance and the lifetime replacement guarantee included and zero placement fees, so the rate is the whole cost. Estimate your specific role on the pricing page.

How to manage remote sales reps across time zones

  1. Put the rep on your clock, in writing. Agree the exact US hours before the offer, converted to local time for both summer and winter. Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and Central America do not observe daylight saving time, so the gap to your team shifts by an hour twice a year.
  2. Make commission transparent and fast. Pay per qualified meeting held ($25 to $100 is the common range) or a monthly quota bonus, pay it on the same cycle as base, and show the calculation. Remote reps who cannot see how variable pay is computed disengage quietly. The structures are laid out in what a remote SDR costs.
  3. Run the same rituals you run in the office. A 15-minute daily standup at the start of the US shift, a weekly pipeline review with the rep on camera, and call recordings reviewed together. Distance is not the problem; invisibility is.
  4. Provide the stack. The rep brings the skill; you bring the CRM seat, dialer, data and email domain. Budget $3,000 to $8,000 per rep per year for tooling, the same as you would for a US rep.

For a full playbook on building the team, see how to run a virtual outbound sales team in LATAM.

Nearshore vs offshore sales talent: how to choose

The labels matter less than the clock. "Nearshore" usually means Latin America for a US company: same or adjacent time zones, cultural proximity to the US market, Spanish and Portuguese as second languages. "Offshore" usually means Asia or Eastern Europe: lower sticker rates in some markets, but a working day that overlaps yours for only a few hours, if at all.

For sales specifically, overlap is the whole job. A rep who cannot dial during your prospects' business hours is not cheaper; they are producing less. That is why 90% of Virtustant's sales placements come from Latin America, and why the global bench (South Africa, the Philippines) is reserved for early, late and overnight coverage rather than core selling hours. Virtustant is a remote staffing agency, Latin America first with a global bench; if a client's schedule genuinely needs the Philippines, that is what we recommend. The nearshore vs offshore comparison covers the management trade-offs in detail.

How to hire remote sales talent from these countries with Virtustant

Virtustant has placed 2,000+ remote professionals for 1,000+ US client companies since 2021, is rated 4.9/5 on G2 and has 160+ Trustpilot reviews. Sales is one of its core categories, and the process is the same in every country on this list:

  1. Day 0: a 20-minute call to define the role, the US hours, the tools and the variable pay. You can name a country, or let the hours decide.
  2. Within 48 hours: a shortlist of 3 to 5 vetted candidates. Each has cleared the four-stage funnel: 100% apply, 22% clear the recruiter screen, 9% pass skills and live English testing, 3% reach a live interview, 1% are hired. That is the top 1%.
  3. You interview and choose. Virtustant sends candidates to your calendar; you decide.
  4. About 72 hours after your decision: the rep starts, with contracting, payroll and compliance handled by Virtustant in one all-in hourly rate from $7/hr. No local entity, no placement fee, and a lifetime replacement guarantee with no time cap.

Applicants and candidates pay Virtustant nothing: no fees to apply, to be placed, or to stay placed. FAQ: hiring remote sales talent by country

Which country is best for hiring remote sales talent?

Virtustant ranks Argentina first, then Brazil and South Africa, for English quality and senior, account-facing sales profiles, followed by Mexico, Costa Rica and Colombia for high-volume outbound and appointment setting on US hours. By placement volume the order is different: across 490+ verified Virtustant sales placements since 2021, Mexico (16%), Costa Rica (13%), Argentina (12%), Brazil (9%) and Colombia (9%) are the five largest sources.

How much does remote sales talent in Latin America cost?

Across Virtustant's verified placements, sales reps, SDRs and appointment setters earn $7 to $9 an hour (25th to 75th percentile) with a median of $8.00, roughly $1,300 a month or $16,600 a year full-time. A US SDR typically costs $50,000 to $65,000 in base salary and $90,000 to $120,000 in realistic year-one cost. With Virtustant there are no placement fees on top, so clients save up to 70%.

Which countries have the best time zone overlap with the US for sales calls?

Colombia, Ecuador, Panama and Peru (UTC-5) match US Eastern in winter and sit one hour behind in summer. Mexico and Central America (UTC-6) match US Central in winter. Argentina and Brazil (UTC-3) run one to two hours ahead of Eastern, which suits East Coast mornings. In practice, Virtustant reps work the client's clock: of sales placements with a recorded US schedule, 56% work Eastern, 27% Central and 16% Pacific.

Do I need an EOR or a local entity to hire a remote sales rep in Latin America?

Not with a managed remote staffing agency. Virtustant engages the professional, runs payroll and compliance, and bills one all-in hourly rate from $7/hr with zero placement fees, so you do not open a local entity or pay a per-worker EOR platform fee. An EOR is the right tool if you plan to source, vet and manage the hire yourself.

Does a country's English ranking predict a good sales hire?

No. Mexico ranks #103 of 123 in the EF EPI 2025 and is still Virtustant's number-one source of sales placements, because Virtustant tests English live with every candidate rather than relying on national averages. Use country rankings to size the talent pool, not to judge the individual in front of you.

What sales roles can I hire remotely from Latin America?

Appointment setters, sales development representatives (SDRs), cold callers, lead generation specialists, inbound sales reps, account managers and closers. Appointment setting and outbound sales are the most common sales roles in Virtustant's placement records, particularly from Mexico and Central America.

How fast can I hire a remote sales rep?

Virtustant delivers a shortlist of 3 to 5 vetted candidates within 48 hours and most hires start within about 72 hours of your decision. Every candidate has cleared a four-stage funnel in which 100% apply, 22% clear the recruiter screen, 9% pass skills and English testing, 3% reach a live interview and 1% are hired.

What happens if the sales rep does not work out?

Virtustant includes a lifetime replacement guarantee with no time cap: if a placement does not work out, Virtustant sources a replacement at no additional cost. Applicants and candidates also pay Virtustant nothing to apply, be placed or stay placed.
