Bilingual Answering Service: 2026 Prices Compared

A bilingual answering service is a phone service whose receptionists answer your business calls in English and Spanish, take messages, transfer calls and book appointments, billed by the minute or by the call. As of 29 October 2026, published plans with about 100 minutes cost $149 to $395 a month. Per-minute answering services (e.g., PATLive, MAP Communications, AnswerHero): $149 to $189 for 100 to 125 minutes, with Spanish included at no extra fee. Premium live receptionist services (e.g., Ruby, Abby Connect): $164 to $250 for 50 minutes and $329 to $395 for 100. Per-call services (e.g., Smith.ai): $300 for 30 calls, plus $1.00 a call for a dedicated Spanish line. Remote staffing agency, Latin America in US time zones (e.g., Virtustant): a dedicated bilingual receptionist from $7 an hour all-in, about $560 a month at 20 hours a week and $1,120 full-time, with zero placement fees.
This guide compares 10 bilingual answering options by their published prices, works out what each one costs at 100, 200, 500 and 1,000 minutes, and gives you the Spanish Parity Test: four questions that show whether a Spanish-speaking caller gets the same service as an English-speaking one. It also shows the crossover volume at which a dedicated bilingual receptionist costs less than each service, and what 18 bilingual searches in Virtustant's recruitment records asked for. Virtustant is a remote staffing agency and one of the options compared, so we stick to published facts and show every calculation. Third-party prices were read on each provider's own page on 29 October 2026.
A bilingual answering service puts a shared team of receptionists on your phone line. When a caller speaks Spanish, a Spanish-speaking receptionist handles the call, and the message, transfer or booking reaches you the same way an English call would. The difference between services is not whether they speak Spanish. It is what happens around the Spanish call: who answers first, at what hours, at what price, and what the receptionist is allowed to do.
| Task | Usually included | Usually priced extra or custom |
|---|---|---|
| Answering in English or Spanish | Live greeting with your script, in both languages on most plans | A dedicated Spanish line (Smith.ai, $1.00 a call); bilingual routing (AnswerConnect, monthly add-on) |
| Messages | Message taken and sent by text, email or app | Messages written back in Spanish, if you need them that way |
| Transfers | Warm or blind transfer to your team | Extra transfer destinations on per-call plans; transfer minutes on some per-minute plans |
| Appointments | Booking in a supported calendar on many plans | Booking inside your own CRM or field-service software |
| Intake and follow-up | Basic screening questions | Outbound callbacks, payment collection, data entry after the call |
The last two rows are where most bilingual businesses outgrow a shared line. If the Spanish call has to end with a booked job in your software, the work after the call matters as much as the greeting. Our answering service cost breakdown covers billing increments and add-ons for any language.
Every price below was read on the provider's own pricing or bilingual page on 29 October 2026. Taxes are extra where the provider says so. Where a page does not publish a figure, the table says so rather than estimating it.
| Service | Published plans (per month) | Overage | Spanish and bilingual terms |
|---|---|---|---|
| PATLive | $49 pay as you go; $99 for 50 minutes; $189 for 100; $349 for 200; $759 for 500; up to $6,899 for 5,000 | $2.99 down to $1.49 a minute | “No bilingual fees”; a free auto attendant lets callers press 1 for English or 2 for Spanish; 24/7 on all plans |
| MAP Communications | $49 pay as you go; $179 for 125 minutes; $339 for 250; $649 for 500 | $1.37 to $1.28 a minute | “English & Spanish Fluency” listed on every plan; no surcharge listed |
| AnswerHero | $39 for 10 minutes; $79 for 50; $149 for 100; $279 for 250; $499 for 500; $949 for 1,000; up to $1,795 for 2,000 | $1.99 down to $1.12 a minute | “100% Bilingual” on every live plan; no setup fees; billed in quarter minutes |
| Easybee | $84 for 50 minutes; $159 for 100; $289 for 200; $419 for 300 | $1.68 down to $1.39 a minute | “100% English and Spanish”; $100 one-time setup fee listed; 10% off with annual billing |
| Abby Connect | $164 for 50 minutes; $329 for 100; $599 for 200; $1,380 for 500 | Billed at the plan's minute rate (no dollar figure published) | Bilingual English/Spanish included on every plan, human and AI, at no extra cost |
| Ruby | $250 for 50 minutes; $395 for 100; $720 for 200; $1,725 for 500 | Not published | Bilingual answering included at no additional cost; Spanish 24/7/365; English-only receptionists transfer Spanish callers to bilingual coworkers |
| Smith.ai (per call) | $300 for 30 calls; $810 for 90; $2,100 for 300 | $11.50, $10.50 and $8.50 a call | Dedicated Spanish line and bilingual routing: $1.00 a call |
| ReceptionHQ | From $25 (per-call message taking); from $40 to $50 for higher plans | $1.99 a call on the $25 plan | Spanish included at no extra cost; bilingual receptionists 5am to 7pm MST, 7 days; after-hours surcharge for bilingual calls on weekends and federal holidays |
| AnswerConnect | Not published on its bilingual page | Not published | Bilingual routing “will come with a small additional charge per month”; bilingual receptionists around the clock |
| Virtustant (remote staffing agency) | A dedicated bilingual receptionist from $7/hr all-in: about $560 at 20 hours a week, $1,120 full-time | None: you pay for scheduled hours, not minutes | One named person, native Spanish with C1 to C2 English, working the US hours you set; no 24/7 coverage |
Two patterns stand out. First, Spanish is now included at no extra fee by most per-minute services; the exceptions are Smith.ai, which prices a Spanish line per call, AnswerConnect, which adds a monthly charge it does not publish, and ReceptionHQ, which surcharges bilingual calls on weekends and holidays. Second, “included” does not mean “answered in Spanish first”. Ruby and ReceptionHQ both describe answering in English and moving Spanish-speaking callers to a bilingual colleague. That is the gap the Spanish Parity Test checks.
Plans are priced in different units, so the table puts them on one scale: the cheapest published plan for each volume, plus overage. Per-call services are converted at 2.5 minutes a call, which is our assumption, not a provider figure. Smith.ai includes the $1.00 Spanish line on every call.
| Minutes a month (about calls) | AnswerHero | MAP | Easybee | PATLive | Abby Connect | Ruby | Smith.ai + Spanish line | Dedicated receptionist (Virtustant) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 100 (40) | $149 | $179 | $159 | $189 | $328 | $395 | $455 | $560 part-time / $1,120 full-time |
| 200 (80) | $279 | $276.50 | $289 | $349 | $599 | $720 | $890 | $560 / $1,120 |
| 500 (200) | $499 | $649 | $697 | $759 | $1,380 | $1,725 | $2,165 | $560 / $1,120 |
| 1,000 (400) | $949 | $1,289 | $1,392 | $1,499 | $2,760 | Not published | $3,350 | $560 / $1,120 |
At low volume a shared service is the cheaper buy, and it is not close: 100 minutes a month costs $149 to $395 against $560 for a part-time seat. The order changes as minutes grow, because a service charges for every minute and a receptionist's cost is fixed by the schedule. Abby Connect's figures assume overage at its plan's own minute rate ($599 ÷ 200 = $3.00), which is how its pricing page describes overage without stating a dollar figure.
Most comparisons stop at “bilingual: yes”. The question that decides whether you keep Spanish-speaking customers is narrower: does a caller who speaks Spanish get the same service as one who speaks English? We call this the Spanish Parity Test. A service passes when all four answers are yes.
Here is how each service's own published wording answers the first three. Outcome parity is rarely published, so ask it on the sales call.
| Service | Greeting | Hours | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| PATLive | Press 1 for English, 2 for Spanish (free auto attendant) | 24/7 stated for all plans | No bilingual fees |
| Ruby | English-only receptionist transfers to a bilingual coworker; message relayed to you in English | 24/7/365; Spanish outbound Monday to Friday, 6am to 5pm PT | Included |
| ReceptionHQ | Answered in English; Spanish callers asked to hold briefly and transferred | 5am to 7pm MST, 7 days | Included; surcharge on weekends and federal holidays |
| Smith.ai | Dedicated Spanish line or bilingual routing | Not stated on its pricing page | $1.00 a call |
| AnswerConnect | Bilingual routing | Around the clock | Monthly add-on, amount not published |
| Abby Connect, MAP, AnswerHero, Easybee | Not described in detail | Not stated separately for Spanish | Included |
| Dedicated bilingual receptionist | Answers in the caller's language from the first word | Only the hours you schedule | Same hourly rate for both languages |
No option passes all four on its own. Services win on hours; a dedicated receptionist wins on greeting, price and outcome during the day but does not cover the night. That is why the strongest setup for a business with many Spanish-speaking callers is usually a split: one bilingual person during business hours and a pay-as-you-go service with no bilingual fee for nights and weekends.
The crossover volume is the number of minutes a month at which the cheapest published plan costs more than a dedicated seat. Below it, the service is the cheaper buy. Above it, you are paying a full-time price for a shared line.
| Service | Crossover vs a 20-hour-a-week seat ($560) | Crossover vs a full-time seat ($1,120) |
|---|---|---|
| Smith.ai + Spanish line | About 48 calls | About 109 calls |
| Abby Connect | About 170 minutes | About 373 minutes |
| Ruby | Past 100 minutes (the 200-minute plan is $720) | Past 200 minutes (the next plan is $1,725 for 500) |
| PATLive | About 342 minutes | About 701 minutes |
| Easybee | About 401 minutes | About 804 minutes |
| MAP Communications | About 422 minutes | About 867 minutes |
| AnswerHero | About 548 minutes | About 1,143 minutes |
| ReceptionHQ ($25 + $1.99 a call) | About 268 calls | About 550 calls |
A worked example shows how far apart the two models get at real volume. One bilingual receptionist search in our records, for a home-services company, describes “roughly 50 calls a day” during business hours. At 21.7 working days a month that is about 1,083 calls, or about 2,708 minutes at 2.5 minutes a call. On published prices the cheapest per-minute option for that volume comes to about $2,588 a month (AnswerHero), then $3,476 (MAP), $3,767 (Easybee) and $4,061 (PATLive). A full-time bilingual receptionist from $7 an hour is $1,120, and the same person books the jobs into the company's software instead of passing on messages.
The opposite case matters just as much. A solo practice taking 10 Spanish calls a week does not need a seat: a plan with no bilingual fee at $79 to $189 a month covers it. Our guide to answering services for small businesses runs the same crossover for English-only lines, and the virtual receptionist pricing guide works the break-even per minute.
To see what buyers ask for when they need Spanish on the phone, we pulled every position in Virtustant's recruitment system whose title names “bilingual” or “Spanish”: 18 positions opened between October 2025 and October 2026.
| What we counted | Result |
|---|---|
| Positions with “bilingual” or “Spanish” in the title | 18 |
| Opened between 16 and 27 October 2026 | 8 of 18 |
| Phone or customer-facing (receptionist, cold caller, call center, appointment booker and setter, intake, reservations, SDR, customer success) | 10 of 18 |
| Other bilingual roles (administrative assistant, recruiter, sales and marketing, legal assistant) | 8 of 18 |
| Full business-day schedule | 11 (6 part-time at 10 to 26 hours a week; 1 not stated) |
| US time zone named | Eastern 7, Pacific 5, Central 3, Mountain 1, not stated 2 |
| Weekend work mentioned | 2 of 18 |
| Round-the-clock coverage requested | 0 of 18 |
Three job posts read in full show what the phone work looks like. A bilingual virtual receptionist for a home-services company answers roughly 50 calls a day, turns them into booked jobs and manages tickets in a field-service CRM, with C1 to C2 English and Spanish required. An English and Spanish appointment booker makes about 125 outbound calls a day for a business entering a Spanish-speaking market, books sessions in the scheduling system and takes payment details by phone. A bilingual screening and call center assistant splits the day between inbound calls and phone screens of job applicants in an applicant tracking system. Those three posts drew 227, 335 and 500 applicants.
The pattern is consistent: none of the 18 asked for 24/7 coverage, and the phone-facing ones ask for work after the call, booking, CRM updates and outbound follow-up, that per-minute plans either price as extras or do not do. In an earlier read of 66 phone-based positions, Spanish was required in 11. Client names, rates, budgets and salaries from these records are not published.
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics puts the median pay for receptionists at $18.27 an hour ($38,010 a year) in May 2025, before payroll taxes, benefits, equipment and the cost of recruiting. Virtustant's $7 starting rate is about 38% of that median. Demand for Spanish on the phone is not niche: about 44.9 million people age 5 and older, roughly 1 in 7, spoke Spanish at home in 2024, according to the Census Bureau's American Community Survey as summarized by USAFacts.
How the rate works: if you pay your agent $10/hr, we give them $9 and keep the dollar in the middle. The rate is all-in, with zero placement fees, one weekly invoice per placement and month-to-month terms. Rates for the role are scoped on the discovery call; see Virtustant pricing and the H1 2026 rate report for role medians.
| Your situation | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Under about 150 minutes a month, few Spanish calls | A per-minute service with no bilingual fee | $79 to $189 a month covers it; a seat is overbuying |
| Spanish calls at night and on weekends | A 24/7 service with Spanish included | Check Spanish hours in writing; some services narrow them or add surcharges |
| Steady daytime volume above the crossover | A dedicated bilingual receptionist | Fixed cost; greeting, price and outcome parity during your hours |
| Spanish calls must end in a booking or a CRM update | A dedicated bilingual receptionist | The work after the call is part of the job, not an add-on |
| Daytime volume plus after-hours calls | A receptionist by day and a pay-as-you-go plan at night | At 60 after-hours minutes, PATLive's pay-as-you-go plan is $49 + 60 × $2.99 = $228.40; MAP's is $49 + 60 × $1.37 = $131.20 |
| Law firm intake in Spanish | A bilingual intake specialist | See legal intake services and law firm answering services |
Virtustant is a remote staffing agency that places vetted bilingual receptionists, intake specialists, appointment setters and other remote professionals from Latin America with US businesses, from $7/hr all-in. Each placement is one named person, native in Spanish with C1 to C2 English, working the US hours you set and inside your phone system, calendar and CRM. Virtustant accepts the top 1% of applicants: 100% apply, 22% clear the recruiter screen, 9% pass cognitive (IQ), skills and English testing, 3% reach a live interview, 1% are hired. You get a shortlist of 3 to 5 vetted candidates within 48 hours of your first call, and your hire can start in 72 hours. Terms are month-to-month, with zero placement fees and a lifetime replacement guarantee with no time cap.
What it does not do: a dedicated receptionist covers the hours you schedule, not 24/7, and a part-time seat is not cheaper than a shared service at low call volume. See the virtual receptionist role or the bilingual virtual assistant role for scope and example profiles, and the bilingual virtual assistant company guide for how to test spoken Spanish and English before you hire.
A bilingual answering service is a phone service whose receptionists answer your business calls in English and Spanish, take messages, transfer calls and book appointments. It is usually billed by the minute or by the call, and the receptionists are shared across many businesses.
As of 29 October 2026, published plans with about 100 minutes cost $149 to $395 a month: AnswerHero $149, Easybee $159, PATLive $189 and Ruby $395, with MAP Communications at $179 for 125 minutes. Smith.ai charges $300 for 30 calls plus $1.00 a call for a dedicated Spanish line. A dedicated bilingual receptionist through a remote staffing agency such as Virtustant starts at $7 an hour all-in, about $560 a month at 20 hours a week and $1,120 full-time.
Most per-minute services list Spanish at no extra fee, including PATLive, Ruby, Abby Connect, MAP Communications, AnswerHero and Easybee. Smith.ai charges $1.00 a call for a dedicated Spanish line, AnswerConnect adds a monthly charge for bilingual routing that it does not publish, and ReceptionHQ applies an after-hours surcharge to bilingual calls on weekends and federal holidays.
It depends on the service. PATLive and Ruby state 24/7 coverage, and AnswerConnect says its bilingual receptionists work around the clock. ReceptionHQ lists bilingual receptionists from 5am to 7pm MST, 7 days a week. A dedicated bilingual receptionist covers only the hours you schedule, so many businesses pair one with a pay-as-you-go service for nights.
Past the crossover volume. On published prices a full-time bilingual receptionist at $1,120 a month costs less than PATLive above about 701 minutes a month, Easybee above about 804, MAP Communications above about 867 and AnswerHero above about 1,143. Against Smith.ai with its Spanish line, the crossover is about 109 calls a month.
It is a four-question check of whether a Spanish-speaking caller gets the same service as an English-speaking one: greeting parity (answered in Spanish without a hold), hours parity (Spanish covered at every hour English is), price parity (no extra charge per Spanish call) and outcome parity (the call ends with the same booking, record update and follow-up).
A dedicated receptionist can, because one person works inside your calendar, CRM or field-service software every day. On shared answering services, booking inside your own system is often custom work or an add-on. In Virtustant's records, the phone-facing bilingual searches asked for booking, CRM updates and outbound follow-up, and none asked for 24/7 coverage.
Through Virtustant, you get a shortlist of 3 to 5 vetted candidates within 48 hours of your first call, and your hire can start in 72 hours, with zero placement fees and month-to-month terms.
Third-party prices. Read on each provider's own page on 29 October 2026: PATLive pricing, MAP Communications pricing, AnswerHero pricing, Easybee pricing, Abby Connect pricing, Ruby pricing and Ruby bilingual answering, Smith.ai receptionist pricing, ReceptionHQ bilingual answering and AnswerConnect bilingual answering (no prices published). ReceptionHQ publishes starting prices of $35 or $40 for its second plan on different pages; the table uses its bilingual page. Figures are reported as published; prices and terms change, so confirm them in writing.
Calculations. Cost at a volume: the cheapest published plan for that number of minutes, plus overage at the plan's published rate. Abby Connect overage: plan price ÷ included minutes, as its page describes. Ruby: no overage published, so only its plan tiers are used. Per-call plans: minutes ÷ 2.5, rounded up (our assumption). Smith.ai includes $1.00 a call for the Spanish line on every call. Crossover: the highest whole number of minutes or calls at which the cheapest plan still costs no more than the seat. Worked example: 50 calls × 52 weeks × 5 days ÷ 12 = 1,083 calls, × 2.5 = 2,708 minutes. Virtustant monthly cost: $7 × 80 hours = $560 at 20 hours a week; $7 × 160 hours = $1,120 full-time.
Virtustant data. The 18 positions are every position in Virtustant's recruitment system whose title contains “bilingual” or “Spanish”, opened between 9 October 2025 and 27 October 2026, read on 29 October 2026. Positions that require Spanish without naming it in the title are not counted. Schedules and time zones are counted only where the record states them. The three job posts were read in full. The 66-position read is from our answering services for small business guide.
